Finally it's there: Google Earth for Linux! and it's even a native version (not wine solution like Picasa) and works as nicely as the Windows version… It seems to use QT and isn't perfect (dialogs look quite ugly on Linux without font anti-aliasing; it looks much much better on Windows!), but it's still beta and using it is really fluid.
I even installed it on the Q1. There it's complaining that the resolution is too low (it wants at least 1024 × 786) but in full screen mode it's very usable! (Software vendors should think more of devices like the Q1!)
I totally agree, Google Eart and Picasa for Linux are great! They don't quite fit into my Gnome (Ubuntu) desktop, but I'll excuse them for that because I enjoy the unique functionality both apps provide. :-)
